Zoos around the world have been opening weekends in record numbers, with the opening of The Secret Life and The Zoo Movie in New York and Los Angeles already generating ticket sales well over the $100 million mark.
However, the $150 million opening weekend is expected to be dwarfed by the opening weekend of the $1 billion film The Last Jedi.
The film opened in China on Dec. 31, and China is the biggest market for Star Wars: The Last Knight.
In the United States, the last film to open in China was Star Wars Episode VIII, which opened in January 2018.
Both films are expected to perform well in China and overseas, according a report by research company Mintel on Monday.
The Last Jedi is projected to make between $200 million and $300 million domestically, with a global total of $1.1 billion.
In Australia, the Last Jedi opened on December 15 and will open on Jan. 1.
