A new lion, born in Queensland’s north, has arrived in Australia and is named Phoenix Zoo.
The new species, named Phoenix, has been born in a zoo in north Queensland, where it was named in honour of a Queensland-born artist.
Phoenix was named after the artist, Michael Collins, who is a local celebrity.
The Phoenix Zoo was established in 1988 to be the largest zoo in the country.
Phoenix is the first lion born in Australia since a species of lions named Pongo was born in the same region in 2005.
The first two newborn lions arrived at the zoo in May and are due to leave in October.
